To Add Color or Not?

We are still in the process of unpacking and decorating the new house, and even though I've been drawn to neutrals and pretty much white everything, I would still like to add a little pop of color here and there.  The dining room above mixes neutrals and a pop of color perfectly in my opinion.  I'm not sure if the hubby would like that much pink in our house, but I would be game for it.  It's simple and modern but yet still comfortable and inviting.

The only room we have finished right now is the nursery.  Every other room in the house is either 80% finished or no where even close to being finished.  (And I don't want to do any of it because I have the sweetest little newborn to snuggle with all day long.  Can you blame me?  It's way better than unpacking boxes.  Actually, it's way better than pretty much anything.)

A New Home for Three

We can cross one thing off our list before bebe gets here - a new home!  Yes, we found a house for rent for our growing family, and we couldn't be happier.  Daniel and I tend to be really picky when it comes to home details, but we knew we had to lighten up because you are never going to find the PERFECT house.  There's always going to be things you want to change, but for the most part, this little 1938 bungalow fits our tastes.

There's original hard wood floors, crown molding, a fireplace, and a sizable backyard...all things that were on our "wish list."  But then with all the charm of an old home comes all the quirks...small kitchen, small bathroom, old cabinets, cracks, etc.  Those are the things we have to let go and just get used to.  We don't have too much more time to look... bebe will be here in less than 2 months!

So after the major clean out we will be doing (and I mean MAJOR), we are still going to have to find some space saving solutions.  (Who knew this little bebe could come along with so much stuff!)  I've been searching pinterest for ideas that are practical but still look good, and some of my finds are above.  The major areas we are going to have to cut down on are the kitchen (where are all my dishes going to go?), decor (we will finally have to find a bookshelf and a space for my magazines) and of course, the closet (Ahh!).

I think this is a good change for us though; we need to get rid of all the junk we've accumulated over the past 5 years of marriage and start new with just the basics.

It's a new chapter and we are definitely ready for it.  If you want to follow more of my choices, you can find me on pinterest here.

Now, time to start packing!

Seriously...

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this home tour on Eye-Swoon.  I have fallen in love with this blog and definitely her home in Amagansett.  It's beautiful in every since of the word, and I would move in in a heartbeat!

You can see the rest of her home tour here.  Enjoy!  (Caution - you might spend the next couple of hours scrolling through her blog.  Hopefully you don't have too much planned for the day, but hey, it's Friday!)

Light vs Dark

I saw this image last night on pinterest and was immediately drawn to the light wood and colors.  It was so light and airy that it made me question my long time dream of dark wood floors.  Only question, not abandon...yet.

I had sworn to have dark wood floors in my dream home one day, but I surprised myself by thinking I could make do (and even enjoy) this lighter version.  I'm liking it...kinda a lot!  But then my heart skips a beat when I look at the floor below.

What's a girl to do?  Too many options.  Solution:  two homes.  Problem solved.

A Pink Couch

Call me crazy, but I'm wanting (desperately wanting) to update our living room with this pink beauty.   (The hubby would never go for it.)  It's not like the rest of our house is super girly, so I think this baby would add an unexpected twist and help balance things out a bit.

I'm not a pastel kind of girl at all, so this caught even me by surprise.  I would have bet against you if you said that I would ever have a pink piece of furniture, but I guess the times are-a-changing.

My mind could also be altered by the 80+ degree weather we had this weekend.  Is it Spring already?  I'm not ready for the heat!

Tight Quarters

This little kitchen space gives me butterflies, lots of butterflies.  You should know by now that I'm a huge fan of brick and white, and then you add in some industrial appliances...I'm sold!

On Sundays, my domestic housewife-ness comes out in full force.  The week night meals get planned and prepped, the baking gets attempted, the house gets cleaned, the laundry gets done, yada yada yada. I don't know why it is, but Sunday is the day I turn into "Super Martha Stewart."  I guess you could say I'm nesting for the week ahead!  (Is that a thing?)

So, on these Sundays I find myself mostly in the kitchen, and although my "dream" kitchen involves a huge island, tons of cabinets and an open layout, I would be perfectly content ecstatic to have this little beauty as my kitchen forever.  There is something about a charming space that gets me every time.  I forget about the cramped quarters that will come to light when two people are trying to prepare a weeknight dinner in a hurry and the crowd that will inevitably gather when you have friends over (because everyone always ends up in the kitchen, right?)

I'll take it anyway.

Side Table DIY

I found this crate/side table via pinterest this morning and am now dying to re-create it for my little home.  I think a DIY project is coming up!

Bohemian Modern

SF Girl By Bay is one of my all time favorite blogs - the design, the style, the character, all of it.  It's bohemian perfection in my eyes, and I should have expected that her home would blow me away as well.

If I could dream up a modern abode for myself, it would be this home.  Simple with quirky details and modern with lots of charm.  I wouldn't really consider myself to be drawn to modern design (I'm a more eclectic kind of girl), but this home marries both styles seamlessly.

You can see the whole tour here.

A Colorful Start

Here we are...2013.  It's the start of a new year, and I am gravitating towards color.  And lots of it!  I'm not much for color when it comes to my wardrobe but am definitely a fan when it comes to the home.  I'm ready to do some cleaning out and rearranging to where we are only left with the pieces that we love - and they are full of color!

What are you drawn to this year?  Colors, neutrals, solids, patterns?

Lazy Mornings

We are back at the work week again.  (Those weekends just go by way too fast, don't they?)  My mind is back in the slow pace of a lazy Saturday morning.  Open the kitchen doors (if it's not 100 degrees out) and let's getting to making something yummy!

That was not the scene of my morning today.  It was a rush (as always) to get ready and get out the door without being late.  Eek!  But here's to hoping for my lazy mornings to become the norm.

Prints in the Bedroom

I am a strong devotee to the white bed - white sheets, white quilts, white everything.  But lately I have been drawn to some patterns in the bedroom - some quirky patterns!  You know you need a change every once in a while and patterns add a little spark to everything.

How amazing is that headboard?  And that print on the bedding?  And those flowers compliment everything in the room!  Print perfection in my book and go figure it's from lonny.  They know how to do it!

A Bright Spot

I am a huge fan of The Selby.  I love seeing inside people's homes (from all over the world) when they are not so "done up" for a magazine spread.  It's refreshing and natural to see a home with character and a "lived in" quality that does not come with a  high priced interior designer tag.

This is one that just "spoke to me" right off the screen.  I love the colors and boho feel of every room.  Check it all out here.  You won't be disappointed!

Tidy As Can Be

Most people who know me would call me tidy (or OCD, take your pick) and that's why this little side table captured my heart.  Look at those books stacked in a row - tallest to shortest I might add.  And that old school radio - set perfectly in place.  And don't forget about those vases on top - perfect proportions to round out the perfect vignette.  It all seems so simple, but truly makes my heart a little bit happier.

Feelin' the Greens

I don't know if it's the Spring weather that has got me all a buzz about veggies and plants, but whatever it is, I'm liking it.

Last Friday, the hubby and I went to the farmer's market and loaded up on veggies (we had to exercise a little restraint since there's only two of us, and there's no way we could eat all the veggies we wanted to get.)  Never the less, we made it out with plenty of ingredients for some week night cooking.  (I for one don't mind an all veggie dinner, but the hubby on the other hand prefers a side of meat to his veggies.  A little compromising has to take place.)

I have also been addicted to plants - cacti mostly!  I want a house full of them one day.  I just love how fresh and modern they make any place feel.

Antlers

I have been on the hunt for antlers for quite some time now, and after running across these images, my fondness only deepens.  I love the rustic (and I am not a rustic girl by any means) and eclectic look it adds to a modern space.  Quirkiness, for me, is a big draw and man, oh man are these babies drawing me in.

Color Me Yellow

I am not usually a bright color wearin' gal, but lately I've caught the color bug.  And not just any color bug, but YELLOW!  I've really never been a huge fan of yellow for anything - until recently.  Last fall, I was into (really into) mustard, and that was strange for me.  But now that spring is just around the corner, my tastes are gravitating toward a brighter, more neon, shall we say yellow.  Weird.  Just weird.  But I love it!  (And I really love that last outfit combo!)

Paper Train

To paper or not to paper?  I say paper, and by paper, I mean wallpaper!  I have been obsessed with wallpaper for years now and can't wait to get my own house, so I can go crazy with wonderful prints just like these.  The only reason I want to buy a house sometimes is just for the decorating.  Is that horrible to say?  We, renters, are so limited in our options!

KISS

Keep It Simple Stupid.  I'm always drawn to the simple designs and stylings the most.  (Don't get me wrong, I am a girl who likes the cluttered, misshelved look sometimes, but SOMETIMES - that's the key word.)  When a room is simple, it just seems to speak to me and say "calm down, we are all in our place."  Ok, I know it really doesn't "speak" to me, but that's what I imagine it says and yes, it calms me down.

At Home with Adam Levine

At Whole Foods this weekend, I took the pleasure to glance through the new Architectural Digest and found myself pleasantly surprised by Adam Levine's home.  I knew he was a stylish beau, but was very impressed with his taste at home (or his interior designer's taste!)

Isn't this such a rock star pad?  I think the hubby is still drooling over that car and piano.  (To tell you the truth, I'm still drooling over that car, and I'm not even a car fan!)
